Baked treats are back!

My kids have had to say no to so many baked treats at school baked sales etc. because they did not meet the standards we have. Recently, I have found so many new recipes for baked goods using good ingredients that still taste yummy!
These brownies have an interesting ingredient but when given to many friends for a blind taste test they LOVED them and were so surprised to hear that the main ingredient was black beans! My kids on the other hand were so excited to be eating brownies and when they heard they had black beans they were even more excited that they were sweet, yummy and had protein!

A BROWNIE WITH GREAT INGREDIENTS

A PAN FULL OF NUTRITIOUS FUN!

Black Bean Brownies Recipe:

  • 1 15 ounce can of black beans, or 1 1/2 cups pre cooked black beans.
  • 1/2 cup cocoa (100%)
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
Rinse beans!  Mix all ingredients together.  Pour into an 8X8 inch greased pan.  Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes.

I found this recipe on Amy's Super Healthy Kids blog

Make it yourself.... and let the kids help.

Many JELL-Os have a lot of processed sugar or the "sugar free" artificial sweeteners, both unnecessary for a cool treat. The labels list 10-15 ingredients many of which are difficult to pronounce (always a bad sign) including artificial flavors and colors.
It is easy and fun to make your own JELL-O at home. Just as fast as the traditional JELL-O flavors you and your kids can mix up a fun healthy treat.

             Chia Seeds
Adding just 2 tablespoons of chia seeds to your daily
diet will give you approximately 7 grams of fiber,
4 grams of protein, 205 milligrams of calcium, and
a whopping 5 grams of omega-3!

  • More Omega-3 than Atlantic Salmon
  • More Antioxidants than fresh blueberries
  • More Fiber than bran flakes
  • More Calcium than 2% milk
  • More Protein, Fiber & Calcium than flax seed
